Get Old and AARP Host National Family Caregiver’s Month

Posted in: Latest News

November is National Family Caregiving Month, and caregiving is a priority topic for the Prevent Blindness community.  Nearly 1-in-3 Americans are caregivers who provide care estimated at $450 billion a year.

Additionally, three-quarters of caregivers work in addition to caring for a loved one – which presents its own challenges.  We encourage you to take part in the following activities hosted by Get Old and AARP:

  • Get Old and AARP Host National Family Caregiver’s Month Twitter Chat Nov. 21, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM ET

Are you or someone you love a  caregiver? Join @AARPFamily,  @GetOld and hosts @AmyGoyer and Freda Lewis-Hall, Pfizer’s Chief Medical Officer for a Twitter chat on caregiving and information from the new e-book Juggling Work and Caregivingby Amy Goyer. To participate or follow the conversation please use the hashtag #JWCChat.

In the e-book, aging and family expert Amy Goyer provides resources, tips and inspiration as well as her own poignant story as a live-in caregiver to her parents.

  • New caregiving toolkit from ReACT – will go live on 11/20 at www.aarp.org/react (Respect a Caregivers Time, a national coalition of some of the country’s biggest employers)

The new toolkit for employers offers resources to assist with the challenges an employee caregiver faces and information on reducing their impact on the companies that employ them – including best practices from corporate leaders.

And don’t forget to take a look at our publication, “Caring for the Visually Impaired”, available free on this site and in print.
