GuideMe

GuideMe is a resource for those who have been recently diagnosed with an eye disease, their family members and caregivers.

How Does It Work?

We will ask a few questions about you and your diagnosis. We’ll use your answers to create a customized guide with helpful information, tips, resources and steps you can take to be proactive about protecting your vision and maintaining your quality of life and independence.

You’ll be able to read this guide on your smart phone, tablet, laptop or PC and email a printable copy to yourself and your family for future reference. If your diagnosis changes, please come back at any time and update your answers to create a new customized guide.

* Please note, Prevent Blindness cares about your privacy and will not store any of your personal information.

About the GuideMe Apps

The GuideMe program was developed by Prevent Blindness, an organization that has been providing the public with eye and vision health resources for more than a century.

The intent of GuideMe is to simulate as accurately as possible a post-diagnosis consultation with a doctor or therapist. It is by no means a substitute for the advice and opinions of your eye doctor. You should make no assumptions about, or changes in, your diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment without the awareness of those who are familiar with your case.

Your guide comes to you via the Internet. It may be printed out, but doing so will remove access to the additional resources it provides through hyperlinks. Still, you can benefit from the information contained in it.

You will notice that some words are in bold. This indicates that they may be found with their definitions in the glossary at the end of the guide. Other words are underlined. Those are the links to additional resources.

“The new GuideMe resource is a fantastic way to organize online information for someone with AMD or for their significant others. So often when reading self-help books, people get lost in all the irrelevant information that is not applicable to their situation.” (Leslie Burkhardt, MSLVR)

Can I create more than one?

You are welcome to resubmit the questionnaire if changes occur in your diagnosis. This will ensure your guide is pertinent to you.

What if I have questions?

Our Hope

Prevent Blindness hopes that you will find the GuideMe program helpful, and that you will tell others about it.
